Be Not Weary In Well Doing

I. Introduction: This lesson applies both to spiritual and carnal matters.

A. It should go without saying, but to be sure, let me say this. The Scriptures do not provide an exhaustive list of every good or evil action one might do or encounter in life. Rather, we are simply instructed to do good (Hebrews 13:14-16 and I Peter 3:8-11).

1. We have to rightly divide the whole Scripture to see what are “good works” (II Timothy 2:15; 3:16-17).
2. Furthermore, what is good in one situation may not be in another (Proverbs 26:4-5 and I Corinthians 7:1-3).

1. We are not just supposed to do a good work, but to continue doing good works (Titus 3:8; 3:14).
2. When we assemble, we are supposed to be provoking one another unto love and good works (Hebrews 10:23-25).
3. The Judgment will come down to this very matter (John 5:28-29).
4. Therefore, we have to focus on the work and finishing rather than getting tired and quitting (Hebrews 12:1-3).

1. Sometimes looking after brethren can become exhausting. That is where forbearance comes in (Ephesians 4:1-3).
2. Sometimes you can think “not again.” Yet, getting tired of "dealing with it" leaves both you and your brother in trouble (I Thessalonians 5:14 and James 5:19-20).
3. Sometimes brethren suffer because of their own choices. Even then, we must remember the place of mercy [compassion] (Matthew 5:7).

1. It is good to work (Proverbs 14:23, Ephesians 4:28, and I Timothy 5:8).
2. Continue doing good even when others do not notice, because the Lord does (Colossians 3:22-25).

1. Think about what Jesus said to the Apostles (Matthew 10:22).
2. Endurance comes with trials (James 1:3-4).
3. Your good will not be forgotten (Hebrews 6:10-12).
