Appreciate The Peace We Have Because Of Justification
I. Introduction: Those who have obeyed the gospel of Jesus Christ have peace through justification.
A. Jesus told the Apostles that they would have tribulation [trouble] in the world (John 16:33).
- Tribulation is a reality in the life of the faithful (Revelation 2:9-10).
- Endurance is the path through tribulation (Romans 12:12).
- But we serve a God who equips us for every good work (II Timothy 3:15-17).
B. God equips us to get past our troubles, in part, through the hope that is before us (I Thessalonians 5:8-9).
- That hope can save us (Romans 8:24-25).
- There are other things that help us too. Changing our focus (Philippians 4:6-8), casting our anxieties on the Lord (I Peter 5:6-7), the Scriptures (Romans 15:4), brethren (I Thessalonians 5:11), etc.
- All of those things are great! Yet something that is not often considered as a source of peace is the fact that you have been justified. If God has justified you, then the greatest conflict you ever had has been resolved. You may still have tribulation in the world, but you are no longer at odds with God. We see that in the letter to the saints in Rome…
II. Body: Romans 5:1-4
A. Being mindful of who we were in sin and how change was made possible (Titus 3:3-7).
- From enemy to reconciliation (Romans 5:6-11). We were not neutral; we were ungodly, we were sinners, and enemies.
- To be able to walk away from darkness to become the children of the living God (II Corinthians 6:14-18). Think about how peaceful that is.
- Having peace through the blood of our Lord (Colossians 1:12-23).
B. Being justified by the blood of Christ (Romans 3:24-25 and I Peter 1:18-19).
- Your sins have been washed away (Revelation 1:5).
- When you came up out of the water, you were freed [justified] from sin (Romans 6:3-7 and I Corinthians 6:9-11).
- Having peace by Jesus Christ (Acts 10:34-36).
C. Allow yourself to live in the peace of God (II Corinthians 13:11).
- You are no longer at odds with God. He is no longer against you (Luke 11:23 and Romans 8:31-39).
- You can live without the burden of your past sins hanging over you (Hebrews 10:12-22).
III. Conclusion: As I have emphasized in many different lessons, you must be willing to allow the peace of God to rule in your heart (Colossians 3:15).
